Before your smash cake session, we’ll have a consultation which will take place either via phone call, zoom or email to discuss and session plan. This is when we’ll chat about the theme if you wanted one and colors you’re envisioning for your shoot. Whether you’re thinking of a whimsical floral theme with pastel spring colors or something more edgy with bold tones, we’ll ensure the setup is designed to your preferences. I also provide wardrobe for your baby which will compliment the set design.

2. Photoshoot Day! 

On the day of the shoot, we’ll begin with some portraits of your baby before the cake is brought out. These shots are great for capturing your baby’s personality and expressions in a clean, uncluttered setting. Once the cake is introduced, the fun begins! The goal is to let your baby explore and have fun with the cake, whether they dive right in or take their time. I’ll be there to capture every smile, every messy handprint, and all of the laughter in between. Don’t worry if your baby doesn’t immediately love the cake—they might take a few minutes to warm up to the idea.

3. Post-Session Gallery Reveal

The BEST part! Runner up after the session of course! Your proof gallery will have all of the best images from your child’s session soft proofed. What does soft proofed mean? This means that the images you see to choose for editing will not yet be fully retouched/edited. I will have a select few images from the session fully edited for you to see examples. After you select your favorites, I will begin the full edit process.

4. Editing and Processing

After you have received your proof gallery and have selected your favorite images, I will carefully hand edit each image to perfection. Editing consists of, skin smoothing, removing flakes, background touch ups and lighting fixes if needed. I focus on creating timeless portraits that beautifully capture your baby’s personality and the joy of the moment.

• Timing is Crucial: Typically cake smash sessions are scheduled around 10-11am however, I also have afternoon availability as well for these sessions. We want to schedule smash cake sessions around your baby’s nap time so they’re well-rested and in a good mood. A happy baby is always more likely to have fun during the session!

• Prepare for Mess: Smash cake sessions are messy! So be ready for frosting-covered hands and faces.

• Bring a Favorite Toy or Snack: If your baby has a favorite toy or blanket, feel free to bring it along to the session. It can help them feel more comfortable and provide some additional moments to capture during the shoot.
