In-Home Newborn Photography in Indianapolis: What to Expect

Having a new baby changes everything. Your routines are different, sleep is unpredictable, and leaving the house can suddenly feel like an entire production.

Your newborn photography experience shouldn't add more stress to those first few weeks.

As an in-home newborn photographer serving Indianapolis, I bring the professional studio experience directly to my clients. Instead of packing a diaper bag, loading your newborn into the car and driving to a photography studio, you get to stay home while I bring everything needed to create beautiful, timeless newborn portraits.

And when I say everything, I mean it.

Professional lighting. Backdrops. Wraps. Props. Newborn accessories. Equipment. And even wardrobe options for Mom.

You provide the baby and the home. I bring the studio.

What Is In-Home Newborn Photography?

There are generally two types of newborn sessions photographed inside a family's home.

Lifestyle newborn photography documents your family naturally within your own space, often using the nursery, bedroom or living room.

My approach is different.

I specialize in creating a professional studio-quality newborn photography experience inside your Indianapolis home. I bring professional lighting, backdrops, posing equipment, wraps, accessories and carefully selected props with me. That means your finished images can have the polished, timeless appearance of traditional studio newborn photography, without requiring you to travel to a studio.

We can also incorporate more natural family photographs within your home when appropriate, giving you a beautiful combination of polished newborn portraits and meaningful family images.

What Do I Bring to Your Indianapolis Newborn Session?

One of the questions parents often have is: “Do I need to have anything ready?” Very little. Before your session, we'll plan the colors and overall look you're drawn to so that I can bring pieces specifically selected for your session. On session day, I arrive with the equipment needed to transform a small area of your home into my temporary newborn studio.

Depending on your session, I bring:

  • Professional studio lighting and equipment
  • Newborn posing supplies
  • Backdrops
  • Wraps and swaddles
  • Newborn outfits and accessories
  • Carefully selected props
  • Client wardrobe options for Mom
  • Everything needed to create your planned newborn portraits

You don't need a Pinterest perfect home, beautifully decorated nursery or enormous living room. Your home is not the backdrop. I bring the backdrop. That distinction is especially important for families who love the convenience of in-home newborn photography but still want the polished look of a professional newborn studio.

You Don't Need to Clean Your Entire House

This deserves its own section because I know what happens when someone says they're coming over after you've just had a baby. You look around and suddenly see laundry, bottles, baby gear and everything else that comes with bringing a newborn home. Please don't deep clean your house for me. I'm coming to photograph your baby, not inspect your home. I only need enough room to safely set up my equipment. We'll determine the best location when I arrive based on the space available.

Your home does not need to look like it belongs in a magazine for you to have beautiful newborn photographs.

Why Indianapolis Parents Choose Newborn Photos at Home

Convenience is one of the biggest reasons families choose an in-home newborn photography experience. During those first few weeks, simply getting everyone out the door can be exhausting. There are feeding schedules to consider. Diaper changes. Older siblings. Recovery after delivery. And inevitably, your baby decides they need to eat again the moment you're supposed to leave. With an in-home newborn session, there is no appointment across town to race toward.

I come to you.

You can feed your baby in your own chair, grab something you forgot from the next room, allow an older sibling to take a break and simply be comfortable in your own environment. For families with multiple children especially, that convenience can completely change the newborn photography experience.

What Happens When I Arrive?

When I arrive at your Indianapolis area home, I'll first take a look at the available space and determine where I'll set up. Then I begin bringing in the studio. You don't need to set anything up before I arrive. Once everything is ready, we'll begin photographing your baby.

Newborn sessions aren't rushed through according to a rigid minute by minute schedule. Babies need to eat. They need to be changed. Sometimes they need a few minutes with Mom or Dad.

That's okay.

My sessions are baby led, meaning we follow your baby's cues while creating the photographs we've planned. My goal isn't simply to get through a list of poses. It's to create beautiful photographs while keeping your newborn's comfort and safety at the center of the experience.

When Should You Schedule Newborn Photos?

I recommend reaching out during pregnancy rather than waiting until your baby arrives. You don't need to know exactly when your baby will be born. Your due date allows me to reserve availability around the expected arrival, and we'll finalize your session date once your baby is here. I typically love photographing newborns during their first few weeks of life, with approximately 11–18 days often being a wonderful window for those sleepy, curled newborn portraits.

However, babies don't follow calendars. If your baby has already arrived or is outside that window, please don't assume you've missed your opportunity. Older newborns can still be photographed beautifully.

Are Parents and Siblings Included?

Absolutely. Your baby's tiny details are important, but so is documenting who they belong to. Parent and sibling portraits are an important part of the newborn experience. And if you're worried because you recently gave birth and don't know what to wear, that's another reason I've designed this as a full-service experience. Wardrobe options are available for Mom, and I'll help guide your family toward clothing that photographs beautifully together. You shouldn't have to spend the week before your newborn session ordering fifteen dresses and hoping one works.

Do I Need to Buy Props or Newborn Outfits?

Nope!  Please don't feel like you need to go shopping before your session. The wraps, props, accessories and other pieces you see throughout my newborn portfolio are part of the experience. We'll discuss your preferences beforehand so your session feels intentional rather than like I'm simply bringing random props into your home.

I gravitate toward imagery that feels timeless, classic and beautiful, because I want these photographs to still feel meaningful hanging in your home many years from now.

I'm New to Indianapolis, Not New to Newborn Photography

Brenaya Faye Photography may be establishing new roots in Indiana, but I am not beginning my journey as a newborn photographer here.

Before serving families throughout Indianapolis, Lafayette, West Lafayette and surrounding Indiana communities, I built my newborn photography business photographing families in Atlanta, Georgia & then Lincoln, Nebraska.

Relocating meant rebuilding my business in a new market but the experience, education and attention I bring to each newborn session comes with me. I've spent years learning how to photograph newborns, work patiently with new parents, manage unpredictable babies and create an experience where families feel taken care of from beginning to end.

Now I'm bringing that experience to Indiana families.

Is In-Home Newborn Photography Right for You?

In-home newborn photography may be perfect for your family if you want professional newborn portraits but:

  • Don't want to travel with a newborn
  • Have older children at home
  • Are recovering from delivery
  • Prefer the privacy and comfort of your own home
  • Love polished studio newborn portraits
  • Don't want to purchase props or outfits yourself
  • Want guidance throughout the entire process

You shouldn't have to choose between professional studio-quality newborn photography and the convenience of staying home.

My goal is to give Indianapolis families both.

A Luxury Newborn Photography Experience, Brought to You

The newborn stage feels all consuming while you're living it. And then somehow, it's gone. Their curled legs stretch out. Their flaky newborn skin disappears. Their tiny fingers get longer. Eventually, it's difficult to remember just how small they once felt against your chest. That's why these photographs matter.

My job is to make documenting this season as easy as possible.

I'll bring the studio.

I'll bring the equipment.

I'll help plan what everyone wears.

I'll guide you through the session.

You simply stay home and love on your baby.
