Cake smash photography is a very popular trend in the baby photography world. These types of sessions are typically done for your child’s very first birthday. During your babies first year of life they are hitting all new milestones, trying foods for the first time, crawling, sitting up, walking etc. A cake smash photoshoot involves a cake, your baby and a simple or fully themed background. Your photographer of this very special moment will capture the sweet bliss of your little one chowing down cake in the messiest way possible! These images are so timeless and such a great way to remember their very first birthday.

Great question! Why? It is such memorable milestone and with a cake smash photo session this provides a fun and exciting way to celebrate it! The emotions captured from curiosity and delight from the taste of the cake makes for heartwarming final images. Creativity comes about when putting together the session set up. When you book a cake smash session with me here in Lincoln Nebraska, I tend to strive for simplicity with a pop of color. This keeps the focus on your baby! Cake Smash Photography Tips | Nebraska Baby Photographer
When it comes to a successful first birthday smash cake session, there a few things I recommend. The first being timing, we need to be sure your little one is well rested and has a full-ish belly! Always do a practice run with a cupcake on the floor the week leading up to the session. The reasoning, most of the time your baby isn’t eating their meal on the floor on a daily basis. So when they come for a cake smash they are confused as to why there is a big ol’ cake in front of them while sitting on the floor haha. Also your baby may have never had cake or frosting before and may not like the texture this helps prepare them so they kind of know what to do. Lastly, be patient! Babies/Little children can be unpredictable so we have to be prepared for any and everything. Some may dive right into the cake while others need a little time to warm up to me and/or the cake! We will not rush the session and your baby is BOSS!
