Do you remember how it felt to see your newborn baby for the first time? That initial rush of love and emotion, inseparable from the wide range of hopes and dreams that swell up inside you? As parents, we are blessed with a daily reminder of these priceless moments as our children grow up. But if there was ever a time in life when capturing those precious memories is the most vital—it’s now!
Photos provide a memory that can bring joy not only today but also years into the future.
The main reasons why you may not want to be in the photographs
One way to commemorate your journey as a mom is by having your picture taken, but for many mothers this idea fills them with unease and apprehension.
As an Atlanta newborn photographer, one of the main reasons why mothers tell me they don’t want to be in the photos with their babies are because they aren’t happy with the way they look; whether it’s due to pregnancy weight gain or other body changes, some moms just don’t feel confident enough in their own skin during motherhood and that’s ok! A lot of pressure is placed on women’s bodies these days and while it doesn’t have to define who you are, it sometimes makes it harder for women to stand in front of the camera.
Another reason is tiredness, lack of sleep is a common thread among moms and it’s reasonable when they look in the mirror they don’t see what they want to see – exhaustion, lack of energy and (for some) postpartum depression can hit hard and make taking your own picture quite difficult.
Finally, sometimes life gets in the way and you just aren’t in the mood for a newborn, milestone or family photoshoot. Days can go by without anything extraordinary happening – no milestones reached- but that doesn’t mean those small moments should go unrecognized or undocumented; these days are still important and memorable.
All these apprehensions are valid but there’s something special about capturing memories through photos – looking back at them creates feelings of nostalgia and joy, things we should all experience once in awhile. So if you’re feeling uneasy about having your photo taken, just remember how special those moments will be when you look back at them!
Why it is important to be in the photos with your little one(s) and why capturing precious memories is important
Capturing precious memories for our children is so important, not only to look back on in the future but also to enjoy in the present. Through photos and videos, we can freeze moments that our kids will be able to look back on as they grow older.
We can document their childhoods and show them how much fun they had, what kind of adventures they went on, which milestones they reached and how much love surrounded them from family and friends. Having these memories will help keep those special moments alive for years to come.
Furthermore, when our children become parents one day, they’ll have the opportunity to share these memories with their own children and create a legacy of beautiful times shared together.
