Is My Home Big Enough for an In-Home Newborn Photography Session?
One of the most common concerns parents have when they hear that I offer in home newborn photography in Indianapolis is: “But is my house big enough?” The answer might surprise you. Your home does not need to be huge, perfectly decorated, filled with natural light, or look like it belongs in a magazine for us to create beautiful newborn portraits. That’s because when I arrive at your home, I bring the studio with me.
Your Home Doesn’t Have to Look Like a Photography Studio
When you think of an in-home newborn session, you may picture lifestyle photographs taken on the bed, in the nursery, or beside a large window. My approach is a little different. I specialize in creating a professional studio experience right inside your home. I bring professional lighting, backdrops, newborn posing equipment, wraps, props, and wardrobe options with me. Once everything is set up, a small area of your home becomes our temporary newborn studio. And when your session is finished? I pack it all back up. You get the polished look of studio newborn photography without packing up your new baby and leaving home.
How Much Space Do We Actually Need?
You may be surprised by how ordinary the spaces I work in are. A living room, dining room, open area, or another room where furniture can temporarily be moved is often all we need. Before your session, I’ll ask you about your space and have you send me a quick photo of the area we’re considering. This allows me to plan ahead and determine the best place for my equipment. If we need to slide a coffee table over or temporarily move a chair, that’s completely fine.
What If My Home Doesn’t Have Great Natural Light?
That’s okay, too. Because I bring professional studio lighting, I don’t need to rely entirely on the natural light inside your home. You don’t need enormous windows or a bright white living room. This is one of the reasons I’m able to create a consistent look for my newborn galleries while photographing families in completely different homes throughout the Indianapolis area. My equipment allows me to create the light I need rather than hoping your home happens to have it.

Do I Need to Clean My Entire House Before My Newborn Photographer Arrives?
Please don’t. You just had a baby! There can be bottles on the counter, toys on the floor and laundry untouched and waiting to be folded. I’m coming to photograph your family, not inspect your house. We primarily need a workable area for my equipment. If something needs to be moved temporarily, we’ll move it. There is absolutely no need to deep clean your home before I arrive.
What About Parent and Sibling Photos?
Your newborn session isn’t only about photographs of your baby. Parent and sibling portraits can be included as part of your session, and I’ll guide you through those as well. You don’t need to know how to pose or worry about whether your home has the perfect backdrop. I’ll take care of the technical side and guide your family so that your photographs still have the polished, timeless feel you see throughout my portfolio.

Why Choose an In-Home Newborn Session?
Those first weeks with a newborn can already feel like you’re packing half the house anytime you leave. Diapers, bottles, extra clothes, pacifiers, blankets older children if you have them. For your in home newborn session, you don’t have to do any of that. Instead of getting everyone ready, loading your newborn into the car and driving to a photography studio, the studio comes to you. Baby can eat when they need to eat, older siblings can take breaks and play in their own space, mom can relax in her own room, everything for baby is right there nearby and when your session is done, you don’t have to drive home because you are already there!
What If I’m Still Unsure Whether My Space Will Work?
Send me a picture, when you’re preparing for your session I’ll help determine which area of your home will work best for my setup. Part of creating a full service newborn photography experience is taking those little worries off your plate and I do not need a big space at all.
