What Is Included in My In-Home Newborn Photography Experience?
When I say “in-home newborn photography,” I don't mean that you need a beautifully decorated nursery, a picture perfect home, or gorgeous natural light. And I don't primarily photograph your session as a lifestyle session around your home.
I actually bring my newborn studio to you.
I arrive with the professional equipment needed to transform a small area of your home into a temporary newborn studio, including professional lighting, backdrops, newborn posing equipment, wraps, props, and wardrobe options for baby. No need to worry about what to wear, I also provide wardrobe options for moms, so that's one less thing you have to worry about preparing.
Parent and sibling portraits are included as part of the newborn experience as well.
Why Does Professional Newborn Photography Cost More Than a Regular Portrait Session?
A newborn session involves much more than the time spent taking photographs. Your investment also accounts for the photographer's experience working specifically with newborns, professional equipment, posing tools, wraps and props, client wardrobe, session preparation, travel and setup, breakdown, image culling, and detailed hand editing after your session.
Newborn sessions can also take longer than traditional portrait sessions because baby sets the pace. There is time for feeding, soothing, changing, snuggling, and settling throughout the session. I never want parents to feel as though we are racing against a clock while their newborn needs them.
Do I Need to Travel to a Newborn Photography Studio?
Not for my sessions! and that's one of the things that makes the Brenaya Faye Photography experience different. Think about those first days after bringing your baby home.
You're recovering. You're tired. Baby needs to eat again. You may have older children to get ready. Then there are bottles, diapers, pacifiers, outfits and everything else you think you might need while you're away from home. Now imagine not having to go anywhere.
I arrive at your home with the studio. You can feed your baby in your favorite chair, grab another diaper from the nursery, let siblings take a break in their own rooms, and relax in your own space while I create your newborn portraits. When we're finished, I pack everything back up. You never have to load your newborn into the car.
For many of my families, that convenience is just as valuable as the finished photographs.
Does My Home Need to Be Large or Have Good Natural Light?
Nope! This is probably one of the biggest misconceptions about in-home newborn photography.
Your home does not have to look like something from Pinterest. Because I bring professional lighting and my own setup, I'm not relying entirely on the lighting or décor already inside your home. Before your session, I'll gather a little information about your space so I can plan accordingly. We may move some furniture temporarily to create the working area I need, and everything can be moved back when we're finished.
Your home is simply where we're creating the studio. This image below was done right in a clients home and you aren't even able to tell the difference from an in-home studio and actual studio.
Are Parent and Sibling Photos Included?
Yes. Although your newborn is the star of the session, I believe this season deserves to include your whole family. We'll create photographs of baby alone as well as parent and sibling portraits. Please don't worry if you don't naturally know what to do in front of the camera. I'll guide you. I'll help with posing, hands, where to look and how to interact so you aren't left wondering, “What am I supposed to do?”
When Should I Book My Indianapolis Newborn Photographer?
I recommend reaching out during pregnancy rather than waiting until after baby arrives. Newborn photographers can only take a limited number of due dates each month because babies rarely arrive exactly when expected. Booking ahead allows us to reserve space around your due date and begin planning your session before you're in the newborn haze. Traditionally, newborn portraits are photographed during baby's first few weeks, but please don't assume you've “missed your chance” if your baby is already a little older. I photograph older newborns, too. If your baby has already arrived, you're always welcome to reach out and see whether I have availability.
Is Professional Newborn Photography Worth the Investment?
That's ultimately something every family gets to decide for themselves. But one thing is guaranteed: your baby will never be this tiny again. Those curled-up legs stretch out.
