First, Congratulations Mama!! Many ask, What to expect during your newborn session? So I am here to explain all the deets when you choose me to photograph your newest edition! I myself am a mother of 4 little ones, 3 of which are all under the age of 3! I absolutely love babies and children but especially the tiniest ones!
Scheduling your session: When you book your newborn photography session with me I will tentatively put your due date on my calendar. I only take a handful of babies a month to be sure I have time to schedule them in when you deliver- so I recommend reaching out when you are in your second trimester. After booking- Once you deliver I ask that you let me know as soon as possible via email or text so we can schedule a firm date within the first 2 weeks of them being born, after 2 weeks of age is fine as well, we will just have to make some modifications as they will not be as sleepy.
Length of Session: Typically newborn sessions range anywhere from 1.5-3 hours in length- Why so long? The reason why newborn photography sessions last so long is because I never rush with them. Babies are the boss and we have to make time for feeds, cuddles and diaper changes.
Pre-Newborn Session Planning: Once you book your session I will send you a questionnaire with all of the questions pertaining to your family. Each session is fully customized and always different to suit your needs and wants. If your baby has specific nursery colors we can implement those colors into the session, if mom or dad have a favorite color that you want your baby to be photographed with we will do that as well, if you have any other children they will be photographed with their new baby sibling, any specific poses that you love we will do those as well! Once you fill out the questionnaire my creative mind starts to set plan with all of the fine details to make your session everything you wanted.
Each newborn photography session includes parent and sibling poses! Yes I highly recommend them- mama you may not be feeling the greatest but you will want these memories to look back on later down the road. I promise you will not regret it! No pressure to do so though. If you do want to have sibling poses we will schedule dad to bring the sibling either at the beginning of the session and leave afterwards or towards the end after baby is photographed by him/herself. Why? Because 90% of the time siblings don’t like to sit for the duration of the newborn session.
Session is almost here: Your newborn session is right around the corner! I will send you a prep guide to best prepare your family and your baby for the session. Again, baby is boss! In the prep guide I send I give my recommendations on what to do to help with the flow of the session including a bath the morning of, packing a pacifier to help soothe, and a full belly.
Session day: It’ s session day! This day came quicker than you thought it would, those first few days seem to be a blur with the lack of sleep and exhaustion. When you arrive to my studio majority of the set ups will be ready to rock and roll I will get started right away, usually if the prep guide is followed baby is nice & warm, full and sleepy. I have snacks and beverages available for you to snack on while me and your little one are hanging out. Feel free to take behind the scenes photos, a nap (haha) and ask any questions you may have while I am shooting. I will shoot all of the setups/poses we plan if baby allows! I like to work as a team with the parents to keep baby nice and happy. The good news is, there’s not much you need to do to make your session a success! I will take care of you all fully so that your session is easy and relaxing so you get to enjoy your experience.
That is all you need to know about what to expect during your newborn photography session with me! I look forward to working with you and your family!
