What is a Fresh 48 Session? | Lincoln, Ne Newborn and Fresh 48 Photographer
Selecting which type of photo session or session(s) to capture your newborn can be difficult due to the abundance of possibilities available to you. The options include birth photography which is someone coming to you while you are in labor and documenting the birth of your baby. You can hire someone for a fresh 48 session which is done after you deliver baby once in your recovery/postpartum room and you can also hire a photographer for a studio posed newborn session or even a lifestyle session which has minimal posing. The choices are all up to you and your wants and needs. Almost forgot the Maternity Session while you are still expecting! How could you ever decide which session to go with?
Although I cannot determine which session is right for you and your family, I can explain the difference between a newborn and fresh 48 session. These two are both done after the birth of you baby and are drastically different.
So what is the difference and do you need both photo sessions? | Lincoln NE Newborn Photography
Let’s start by discussing their differences. I’m sure you can guess what makes a birth photographer different from a maternity session photographer so let’s discuss what makes a fresh 48 hospital session different from a studio newborn session. Given that these two sessions are typically held within a few weeks or even days of one another, some parents may find these two sessions unclear.
Fresh 48 Photography | Nebraska Photographer
While you and your newborn are still at your birthing facility, a fresh 48 session will occur. Usually, it occurs in the first 48 hours following the delivery of your baby. Many times the session will take place the morning following delivery or the morning of the day you will be released from the hospital. If done the morning of discharge, mom and baby will have a little more time to recover and prepare for the session. While it won’t replace birth photos, a Fresh 48 nevertheless records those fleeting moments in the first few hours of your babies life. You will see differences in your little baby even in the first few days after birth, I can assure you of that. During the first week of their life, your baby will go through significant development spurts in such a short time, therefore this session will help you recall how tiny they were at this time.
All of their firsts, as well as your firsts as a new parent, are being captured in a fresh 48. The first time siblings meet (if they have any), the first bath (if timed properly), the first grins, the first yawns, the first feeding with dad, the first diaper changes by dad, and other moments could be captured on camera. Little features like baby’s hands, feet, tiny fingernails, belly buttons, or while they are being carried home from the hospital or curled up in a bassinet are also captured.
A Studio Newborn Session | Lifestyle or Posed
Newborn sessions can come in two different forms: posed newborn sessions in the studio and lifestyle newborn sessions which can be done at your home or also in the studio. We can achieve beautiful images with either option.
Posed newborn sessions can take place anytime during the first two weeks. Your images will highlight those tiny baby details in an authentic way with baby led posing. We want the focus to be on baby and all of their unique and beautiful features. The family images in the session will have a more traditional posed studio to feel to them.
Newborn posed sessions with baby-led posing can be done anytime within the first 2 weeks after baby being born. Baby led posing means baby is boss and we will only do poses your baby allows. Some poses that are included are bum up, potato wrap, chin on hands, baby in a prop etc. You do not need to supply anything for the session. I’ve got it all from outfits, props, wraps, you name it! The reasoning behind having the 2 week window is because after 2 weeks your baby is more familiar with the outside world and does not necessarily care for being asleep as long. They are more alert. The family portraits from the posed session will feel more like traditional studio photos.
A posed studio session may be the right option for you if:
- -You do not want to have to be concerned about getting your babies nursery and house ready for photos.
- -You want your baby in props and posed on a posing bed in the curled up squishy newborn poses.
- -You prefer the photos to have a more posed look with a solid backdrop vs a documentary vibe.
In Home Lifestyle Session | Lincoln Newborn photographer
With a lifestyle Newborn session there is a little more flexability with scheduling these. During these sessions, they are more candid and relaxed. I focus on the connection with your family without posing you all in specific poses. We just go with the flow! The pictures will show the baby’s nursery and have a documentary-style approach. The goal of this session is to document your life as it is now after having your baby.
An in-home newborn session might be the option for you if:
- want to capture images of your baby’s nursery with your baby in it
- truly wish to capture the days after bringing your baby home so you can cherish the moment forever.
Can you book both a fresh 48 and a newborn photography session? | Newborn Photoshoot Ideas
Absolutely, YES! With a fresh 48 session, there’s nothing greater than having those first moments to look back on when your little babe grows older. To be able to tell them that the first pictures taken were while you were still in the hospital as candid as it cam be. These also are very very great for baby announcements! When you secure a fresh 48 session I will have 15+ images delivered to you within 48 hours from the session! That way you do not have to anticipate the longer wait times with the fine detailed studio edits. Also when you secure both sessions you will also receive a discounted price for your fresh 48. In contrast, a studio newborn photography session typically takes 2-3 hours in length. There’s enough time for a cup of coffee, feedings, changing diapers, and spending quality time with your adorable new baby during this stress free session. You will feel a little more put together overall. You’ve also had some time to acclimate to life with a newborn before your newborn session.
